Welcome to Marie's Cozy Corner for today's Post as you can see by the Title I will be interviewing Amy from Beads and Lace. So, pour yourself some Tea and relax and Enjoy this read Plus at the end of this Post there is Information on how you can win a Necklace from Beads and Lace.
(Marie) How long have you been crocheting and who taught you?
(Amy) I really learned and kept at it when I was probably sixth or seventh grade. My grandmother was at my house one time and crocheting an angel. I said I wanted to learn so she sat down and helped me make one, too. I'm not sure what happened to the angel, but what happened to me was I loved crocheting.
(Marie) What type of crochet do you particularly enjoy?
(Amy) I don't know that I enjoy one type more than another. I like trying out different patterns with different stitches each time because I get bored doing the same stitch again and again. Every now and then I'll do something easy like a granny square or filet crochet, just to have something mindless to do in front of the TV at night. I'm really wanting to learn how to do Tunisian crochet, but haven't had time to sit down and work it all out yet.
(Marie) What role has your store played in your crochet life?
(Amy) I get really excited when someone orders one of my creations. It definitely keeps me motivated. That, and my friends and family who say, "could you do . . .?" Then, I sit down and figure out a way to do it. It's definitely been nice to have my store if only to be able to send people there to see examples of my work.
(Marie) why did you start your store and has it take you where you though you would go?
(Amy) It took me a while to actually get up the nerve to start my store. When I started thinking about crochet and jewelry together, I wasn't sure how I was going to go about it. Then, one time when I was making a pair of baby booties, I thought, the base of this would work as the base for a flip flop and if I used a smaller thread. Voila! I came up with my flip flops and then taught myself to string them together into a bracelet. Ladybugs came about the same time. From there, I've branched out quite a bit. I wanted a way to sell it to more than just friends and family and coworkers so several people suggested etsy and I got brave enough to set up my site about three or so years ago, if I remember correctly. I haven't sold quite as much as I thought I would, but part of that is my fault as I don't post new stuff as often as I want to. It has been neat to see people from all over the country buying my creations, though. That is so cool to me.
(Marie) f you had a message for a beginner crocheter, what would it be?
(Amy) Don't give up if your first piece doesn't come out like you thought it would or exactly like it looked on the pattern. You have to practice to get the tension and stitches right. The more you crochet, the more you'll know how it works best for you. And here's a tip my Grandma gave me -- always hold your hook exactly like you would hold a pencil. :-)
