Circle in a Square



I find this block in 200 crochet blocks for blankets, throws, and afghans by: Jan Eaton.

Circle in a Square
  • Foundation Ring: Using yarn A, ch 8 and join with sl st to form a ring
  • Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 15 dc in to ring, join with sl st into 3rd of ch 3. (16 dc) Break off yarn A.
  • Round 2: Join yarn B, ch 5 (counts as 1 dc, 2 ch),(1 dc into next dc, ch 2) 15 times, join with sl st into 3rd of ch 5. (16 spaced dc) Break off yarn B
  • Round 3: Join yarn C to any ch 2 sp, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc),2 dc into same sp, ch 1,*(3 dc, ch 1) into next ch 2 space; rep(repeat) from * to end, join with sl st into 3rd of ch 3. Break off yarn C.
  • Round 4: Join yarn D to any ch 1 sp, *(ch 3, 1 sc into next ch 1 sp) 3 time, ch 6 to make corner sp(space), 1 sc into next ch 1 sc; rep from * to end. join with sl st into first of ch 3.
  • Round 5: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 2 dc into first ch 3 sp, 3 dc into each of next two ch 3 sps,*(5dc, ch 2, 5 dc) into ch 6 corner sp, 3 dc into each ch 3; rep from * to end. join with sl st into 3rd of ch. Break off yarn D.
  • Round 6: Join yarn E to any dc along side of square, ch 3, work 1 dc into each dc of previous round, working (1dc, 1 tr, 1 dc) into each ch 2 corner sp, join with sl st into 3rd of ch 3. Break off yarn E.
  • Round 7: Join yarn A to any dc along side of square, ch 1, 1 sc inot ecery dc of previous round, working ( 1 sc, 1ch , 1 sc) into each tr at corner, join with sl st into first sc. Break off yarn A.
  • Round 8: Join yarn B, ch 1, 1 sc into every sc of previous round, working 3 sc into each ch 1 corner sp, join with sl st into first sc.
  • Fasten off yarn.
